How long are your fishing charters? |
Q. What happens if there is unsafe weather and boating conditions?
A. We require customers to confirm between 6.00-6.30pm the night prior to the charter to confirm their booking and make sure the boating conditions will be safe. If the charter is cancelled by Game On Charters due to unsafe boating conditions, the charter is transferred to another day or deposit refunded. Gift Vouchers are non-refundable, however they can be transferred to a later date.
Q. Are Gift Vouchers available?
A. Yes, Gift Vouchers can be purchased by cash, money order or funds transfer. They are valid for 12 months. Gift vouchers will be sent by mail. Envelope includes gift voucher(s), invoice, brochures and a detailed information sheet. The holder of the voucher then books at their convenience or you can prebook. Gift vouchers are non-refundable.
Q. Where does the boat depart from?
A.Boat departs from the boat ramp adjacent to the Portland Yacht Club.
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. Our charters are crew and equipment all inclusive, however we have a few hints of what to bring & wear. Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, camera, shoes, warm clothing, food and refreshments. There is water on the deck throughout the day so if decide to wear shoes, wear some you don't mind getting wet. You can BYO alcohol if you wish. If you have a long drive home you may want to bring an esky to keep your fish. We cannot supply seasickness tablets or any other medications on board. But we recommend all passengers take seasickness tablets - 'Quells' or other which can be purchased from a pharmacy at minimal cost.
Q. How long does it take to get to the fishing grounds?
A. It takes about 15-30 minutes 5 hour charter and about 40 minutes to get to the 8 hour fishing ground. Game fishing travel time 1-1.5hrs to fishing grounds.
Q. Is there accommodation close to the departure location?
A. Yes, there is plenty of accommodation close to the departure location. Contact Portland Visitor Information Centre for accommodation details.
Q. Do I have to be experienced?
A. No, we cater to both experienced anglers and novices. We assist you in learning techniques of fishing and our friendly crew can answer any of your questions and are on hand to help throughout the day.
Q. Do I get to keep my catch?
A. Yes, you get to keep your catch. All your fish are gutted, gilled, cleaned and bagged for you ready to take home. Recreational bag limits do apply. We legally cannot fillet any species. We recommend you bring an esky to take your fish home if you have a long journey.
Q. Do I need a recreational fishing license?
A. Yes, these are available from Portland Bait and Tackle {open early,near boat ramp} and other outlets.
Q. Do you do whale watching charters?
A. Yes,Between November and May the waters of Portland offer great opportunities to view blue whales. At times these beautiful giant mammals become curious and may come close to the boat for a look.
Q. Once I make a booking is there any need to contact you?
A. Yes, you will need to contact us the night prior to the charter between 6.00pm - 6.30pm to confirm your booking and the charter in regard to the weather and boating conditions. .
Q. Do you supply rods and reels?
A. Yes we supply all your fishing equipment and bait. We supply top quality Okuma and Shimano rods and reels and all terminal tackle.
Q. Can I bring my own rod & reel?
A. Yes, you can bring your own rod & reel. The boys can rig it up to suit offshore fishing for you.
Q. Can seasickness tablets stop me from being sick and do you supply them?
A. In most cases seasickness tablets can prevent you from getting sick. We cannot supply seasickness tablets or any other medications on board. If you wish to take seasickness tablets to reduce the risk of being sick you will need to purchase these tablets from a chemist before the charter and read the directions in regard to taking them. (Some tablets require you to take one tablet the night before and another 1 hour before boarding the boat.) Please contact you physician to check if these tablets interfere with your other medications.
